19″ Rack for Equipment

The industry standard is a 19″ rack width for rackmount computer and audio video equipment. The 19″ rack enclosure cabinet is the most common for mounting rackmount computer servers, RAID storage systems, network switches and routers, audio video gear and more. 19″ racks are manufactured in many styles and depths for various conditions and equipment.

A computer 19″ rack conform to standards established in the industry. 19″ rack standards are set by Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Deutsches Institut fur Normung (DIN). 19″ racks use Rack Units (RU), which has been shortened to just “U”, for vertical height of the enclosure cabinets and equipment that goes inside. A U is equal to 1.75 inches, so 19 inch rack systems are described not in inch but in U’s of available space.

The XRackPro2 19” rack is produced in 25U, 12U, 6U and 4U sizes. For example, the 19” rack that is 12U tall can hold up to 12 units of 1U servers or 6 units of 2U systems can be used or 4 units of 3U equipment and so on. Of course the 19 inch rack can hold many combinations of equipment that is 1U, 2U, 3U, etc.

Depth of 19″ rack mount equipment varies even though the width is an industry standard. Choosing a 19in rack with variable depth vertical posts will allow for deep or shallow systems.

GizMac Accessories Debuts a 25U XRackPro Rackmount Enclosure Cabinet at MacWorld

 

GizMac Accessories LLC, designer and manufacturer of innovative products for the Apple platform, announce the 25U XRackPro Noise Reduction Enclosure at the MacWorld Exposition last year. Building on their success with the 12U XRackPro Noise Reduction enclosure cabinet for Apple Xserve and Xserve RAID systems, GizMac Accessories debuts their new 25U XRackPro.

The new (at that time) 25U XRackPro, along with the current 12U model, are on display in booth #2211 at the MacWorld Expo. Visitors to the GizMac booth will be able to view both models, as well as their accessories, throughout the week. With the additional height the 25U XRackPro provides, there is room for numerous pieces of rackmount equipment inside.

Apple Workgroup Cluster users will be able to install up to 25 Xserve servers inside the enclosure cabinet. Post production, graphics and other G5 workstation users can use up to 2 G5 towers plus a couple Xserve RAID systems inside the 25U XRackPro. GizMac Teams with Imagineer Systems for Industry Debut of mogul at NAB 2008
